Rough seamsMy first impression on unpackaging was that these looked a little 'blousy.' Granted I had to order up as according to the size chart, my waist is in between a size M and size L. Ordering up is preferred for me as I don't like my waistbands to bind and create even a slight amount of 'muffin top,' and especially not during my period when I'm already feeling bloaty. Pictured is the large, with my non-menstrual waist at 30" and my hips at 40." I think these will be totally comfy when I'm on my period, but I think I would have also been okay in a medium.I'm a big fan of Thinx and had ordered their Boyshort version (moderate absorbency or 3 tampons' worth of fluid), and two different thong styles (yes, thong panties for light days!) before they rebranded. I was excited to get another pair of shorts-style period panties when ordering these Thinx Training Shorts. These are rated at super absorbency, or 5 tampons' worth, and although the extra absorbent padding doesn't extend all the way up to the back, the padding of the Training Shorts is heavier than the Boyshort. I don't think that either of these are designed for sleeping but I've slept in the Boyshort without leaks (and I think I have the most horrific endometrial periods where I've had to empty my menstrual cup about thirteen times on my worst day!). So period panties are a major investment for me saving a lot of clothing, bedding, and furniture from being stained, sleepless nights, miserable morning laundry, and from embarrassing leaks while out. Thinx also does a Sleep Shorts version which I want to investigate -- perhaps the absorbent layer goes all the way up the back. Some brands use 'stainproof' fabric and while not absorbent, they do save those leaks from showing through. Neither the Boyshort nor the Training Shorts have this type of fabric on the outer layer. The design: as mentioned, a bit blousy, but that could be a size issue of my own doing, however they do seem to flare below the waistband just a little gathering slightly in front. The inner layer is snug though so I feel secure. The outer layer perfectly disguises any bulkiness that you might feel from the extra inner layers and works perfectly for active bodies -- totally squat proof too as the rise is nice and high. The inseam is 3.5" but the crotch of the outer layer falls kind of low on me. I love the dolphin hem with the curves at the side seams, and also the mesh border along the front. The wide waistband is comfy -- it's not a compression fit but looks a bit sporty. The back zipper / credit card pocket is handy for when you're on the go (or for an extra tampon if you need!). The Thinx logo on the back is reflective. The outer fabric is light and feels like a quick-dry type athletic textile. The gusset is extra soft and moisture wicking. Oh, and they're totally tagless.I really like the Training Shorts and will be wearing these when Aunt Flo visits next time. These feel fuss-free yet secure enough to wear around the house while I'm on my period, whereas the Boy Short is totally snug spandex-type underwear and not really appropriate for wearing out or even around the kids at home. Thinx are also machine-washable while some other brands are not.Thinx is well worth the investment with its styling, comfort, and peace of mind. They're also planet-saving eliminating the need to use disposable products, and they're extra insurance for menstrual cup users. I highly recommend.Great idea! Make more colors and skorts. Please make them less blousy. These shorts do not feel luxurious or high-end, but overall they fit and function as expected. The shorts are comfortable to wear and that tiny bit of roominess helps hide any bulk from the cycle protection they provide. They generally fit true to size and as expected – I'm a little more used to higher end brands of athletic clothing so these felt a little bit less pliant and comfortable than what I'm used to, but I definitely love having the added protection when working out. I hope they will continue to refine their fabric choices and cuts of this workout line of protective gear.I was admittedly skeptical of “period undies” or anything in that nature but I am so mad that as a 30 something year old I am only just now using these. They fit true to size and are pretty comfortable. Even on my heaviest days, they keep me feeling dry and fresh and honestly I sometimes forget I’m wearing something (and mildly panic before I remember). After my first use, I went and bought a few more Thinx products because they were that comfortable and convenient (and way less wasteful than pads or tampons, and easier to put on that messing with a cup).Washing them went well. They cleaned easily and I hung them to dry for later use. They’ve held up well.I have a heavier flow on average and these outperform pads and tampons both in comfort and length of wear.I do wish the padding in the front went up a bit higher, as I tend to sleep on my stomach, but as long as I make sure I adjust things, I don’t have to worry about leaks, and certainly not nearly as much as I did prior to having these. We've invested heavily in period underwear, so I am very familiar with this type of product. My girls both swear by it. Regular period underwear is more of a backup or for light days. But recently manufacturers have been making period underwear you can seriously wear in place of a pad or tampon. These also have their place, and are obviously environmentally friendly. The best way to think of these period training shorts is to picture skorts, with their two layers. These shorts basically have a built-in pair of underwear with the shorts as an outer layer. I'm not sure that innovation is worth the current asking price of $65!They are surprisingly cute. However, these shorts have a flaw. The first thing we always look for is whether the, um, padding goes all the way up the back. It does not.HOT TIP: We keep a small separate covered trash receptacle in the bathroom just for used period underwear. Then we can just toss it in the wash when those days end without looking at it or handling it.
